Marek Zyga Uni Formy Xxvii - Lim. Edition
UNI FORMY XXVII - lim. edition by Marek Zyga
"Some people never go crazy. What truly horrible lives they must lead". - Charles Bukowski
ceramic sculpture, black and white glaze with abstract symbols
lim. edition - 1/50 pcs.
size: H x D x W 30X25X35cm
Each piece starts from a small model made from a gypsum (plaster) mould. Using extrusion, impression, casting, and modelling, artist creates his forms in segments which make up the final life-size sculpture. Zyga is fascinated by the rough texture of chamotte clay, which has a great deal of grog; a fired clay, ground into coarse particles and added to wet clay to produce a gritty, rough texture called "tooth." Texture and patterns are formed across the figures as clay segments are built up and pressed next to each other. These modelling techniques create an organic surface texture reminiscent of earth and stone. The garments are coloured with glazes, pigments and engobes made of coloured clay slips that enhance their texture, pattern, and form.
Zyga’s work, both in bronze and ceramic, is celebratory of the human form; mysterious in the abstract use of symbols; and haunting with an aura of a dream-like, imagined world. His sculptures delve deeply into human nature, exploring feelings of love, desire, longing, and temptation in search of answers to what makes us human.
He says, “My sculptures are like processed images from reality to some extent, they are stories”
His work earned him a place in the curated art collective known as Imaginary Realism (Netherlands), where he exhibits his work with the world's best contemporary established artists and upcoming talents in the field.
Zyga has exhibited worldwide, including the LA Art Show with Evan Lurie Gallery, Los Angeles Art fair Palm Beach with Continuum Gallery, Karen Echt Gallery USA, Cafmeyer Gallery Belgium, Etienne Gallery, Gallery Van Loon in the Netherlands and in many more museums and galleries around the world.
