Peter Layton's "Arrival of Spring" Ovoid is a small glass sculpture.
”Over the past few years, I have taken inspiration from painters whose work I love, moving towards a more sculptural and painterly approach to vessel making, in which the flattened form becomes a canvas for strong gestural mark-making and bold colourways. My series grow organically, often developing in unforeseen directions. My Arrival of Spring series was inspired by a huge painting by David Hockney that hung in the Royal Academy in 2014. My work does not intend to replicate the original, rather to evoke an essence exploring painterly qualities in hot glass by building rich and often complex layers of colour and pattern.” – Peter Layton
